Madi Carr is 16 years old and studying vocal at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts. She sings and plays covers and originals on the guitar and ukulele in what could be described as a rock-folk-blues style. She grew up listening to oldies and they greatly influence her and can be heard not only in her choice of cover songs but in her original music that she writes. To her, music is a power that can bring change in a world that needs it, and she will do her best to bring that.

LaVilla School of the Arts is proud to have one of the premier middle school chamber orchestras in the state of Florida. Student musicians include violinists, violists, cellists and bass players who work hard to perfect their techniques in stringed music. Our directors are experienced musicians and teachers. Ms. Carol Griffin, who teaches orchestra has been at LaVilla for 6 years, while Mr. Angelo Goderre is returning for his fourth year at LaVilla; he teaches Orchestra, Music Theory, and Introduction to the Arts. For detailed information about the orchestra program, including a student handbook, information about private lessons, and more see above link.

The Douglas Anderson School of the Arts Orchestra program is one of the finest high school orchestra programs in the nation. Under the direction of Brian Griffin, Director of Orchestras, the orchestra program at DA consists of three string orchestras, ranging from a training-level ensemble through an advanced Repertory Orchestra, which regularly performs FOA Grade A-level literature. In addition to orchestra classes, students receive instruction in Music Theory, Keyboard, Music History, Recording, and Electronic Music. String Pedagogy, where DA students learn to teach strings through clinical experiences at Pine Forest Elementary School and LaVilla Middle School, was added to the curriculum in 2014-15. A Chamber Music class, as well as master classes, lectures, and special performances with world-class performers round out the learning opportunities offered at DA. Orchestras at DA have consistently received superior ratings at the Florida Orchestra Association District Festivals/Music Performance Assessments. In 2012, the DA Chamber Orchestra performed at the 66th annual Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic. In 2010, 2012, and 2016 the Orchestra Program contributed to the DA Music Department being recognized as the National Signature School by the GRAMMY Foundation.
