Thirty consecutive years of performance excellence has earned LaVilla School of the Arts Jazz Band a reputation as one of the premier ensembles in Jacksonville and beyond. Mr. Christopher Banks, their third director, is building upon the success of previous teachers, founder Mrs. Carol McQueen and Mr. Jim Daniels. The ensemble is comprised of sixth, seventh and eighth grade students, typically with one to two years of playing experience. Along with their regular class schedule, the middle school orchestra performs 15 to 20 in times in Jacksonville and out of state.

Mark Williams and Blue Horse is an eclectic band that can rock hard, with an improvisational feel, mingling in a bit of Latin or classical. Haunting melodies and poetic lyrics are Mark's signature. Blue Horse employs guitars, keyboards, cellos, violins and steel guitar to create a variety of moods. Members share wide-ranging experience, from recording and touring bands to symphony orchestras. Williams composed music for nationally recognized spoken-word artist and playwright Al Letson's "Essential Personnel,” which ran Off-Broadway, the DC Arts Center (Washington) and Baltimore’s Theatre Project. Mark was the first musical artist to get a grant from the Community Foundation of Jacksonville and the J. Shepard, Jr. and Mary Ann Bryan Arts Endowment.
